Trump: 'I think we're going to have Greenland'

The people of Greenland 'want to be with us', US President Donald Trump has said.

The US president is threatening economic sanctions against Denmark if it does not agree to sell Greenland to the US. The Arctic island belongs to Denmark but enjoys a large degree of autonomy.

Trump already telephoned Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen who spoke of a ‘horrible’ conversation with the US president.

‘I believe it will be ours,’ Trump said on Saturday aboard Air Force One.

'I do believe Greenland, we’ll get because it really has to do with freedom of the world. It has nothing to do with the United States, other than we’re the one that can provide the freedom.'

According to Trump, the 57,000 residents of the Arctic island want to belong to the United States.
