White House website suddenly unavailable in Spanish
Donald Trump wants to step up the fight against illegal immigration. That he is particularly targeting Spanish-speaking migrants is evident from a new decision.
Every time a new US president moves into the White House, the White House website is updated. With Trump as the new occupant, it is not just a different text or different pictures: it turns out that the Spanish-language version of the website no longer exists either.
The New York Times learned from a White House spokesperson that a new Spanish-language version will become available, but it is not clear when. The newspaper reports that during his first term in office, the Spanish-language version also disappeared, that its return was also promised, but that it never came in the end.
According to official figures, 13 per cent of Americans over 4 speak Spanish at home. According to think tank Hispanic Council, 43 million of the 340 million US residents speak Spanish on a regular basis. Latinos also played a major role in Trump's election as the 47th president of the United States.
