Putin soon on the big screen: Which actor will play him?
The Magician of the Kremlin is an adaptation of the best-selling novel by Giuliano da Empoli, by director Olivier Assayas. The film traces Vladimir Putin's rise to power in the 1990s.
British actor Jude Law will play the Russian president in The Wizard of the Kremlin. Now 52, the actor told (entertainment) news site Deadline that the role was a huge challenge, and that he was committed to taking it on.
“I say that hesitantly, because I haven't really started working on it yet. Well, yes, I have, but right now it feels like an Everest to climb, so I'm at the foot of the mountain, looking up thinking, 'Oh my God, what did I say?'. That's how I often feel when I say yes. There I was, thinking: 'Oh Lord, how am I going to do this? But hey, that's for me to sort out,” explained Jude Law.
The film traces Putin's rise to power in Russia in the 1990s, after the collapse of the USSR. As reported La Dépêche, the synopsis highlights the story of Vadim Baranov, a young artist turned TV producer, who becomes the image advisor to Vladimir Putin, then a promising member of the FSB.
