Waitresses wake up customers who have had too many drinks by...slapping them
In Japan, several bars have developed a rather surprising offer: pay to get slapped if alcohol has been consumed without moderation.
In some Japanese bars, you can be slapped awake if you've had a few drinks too many. This is particularly the case in bars belonging to the Yotteba chain, which initiated the unusual offer.
In Yotteba bars, for a fee of 500 yen (around 3 euros), customers can ask a waitress to give them a slap, or binta in Japanese. As reported by Demotivateur, for a further 100 yen, they can even choose which waitress administers the slap.
Since social media networks are never far away when it comes to unusual tactics, Yotteba was forced to stop the service. A video that showed a man being slapped in the face quickly went viral, highlighting the violence of the act, even though the customer didn't seem to mind (on the contrary).
While the restaurant chain wanted to offer a “funny” service to customers who had had one too many drinks, to help them come to their senses before leaving the bar, numerous complaints were lodged against the establishments, questioning the 'binta's' violence and their physical consequences, Demotivateur points out.
Today, Yotteba has no desire to be associated with painful “binta”.
