Ukrainian drones can now shoot down Russians with rifles
A futuristic drone? The Ukrainian armed forces have developed a surprising combat technique.
Indeed, Kiev is now equipping its drones with shotguns...to destroy enemy drones but also to shoot down soldiers.
On Saturday, pro-Ukrainian bloggers published a video showing a drone equipped with two guns flying over a battlefield. In the footage, captured near the town of Kupiansk in north-west Ukraine, the drone can be seen targeting at least 3 Russian drones carrying grenades and firing at them in succession. All three then crash into the ground. Later, the drone spots a Russian fighter along a road, races towards him but misses. Second attempt: the soldier is hit and falls to the ground. In the video, it's not clear whether the man is wounded or killed.
According to the American magazine Forbes, this is the first time that the Ukrainian army has equipped its fleet of drones with firearms. These machines are now called “Winchesters”, identical to the rifles they carry.
