Dangerous TikTok Superman Challenge claims victims
At a school in Brasschaat, Belgium, a pupil has been seriously injured while practising the so-called Superman Challenge, a hype that is busily shared among youngsters on TikTok these days, but which is clearly not without danger!
‘Even with a gymnastics mat present, this is not a good idea,’ stresses the gymnastics teacher when told what this popular TikTok challenge entails.
In this Superman Challenge, two rows of youngsters face each other with their arms crossed and hands interlocked. Another child jumps into the group with fists forward, like a flying Superman. And then they catapult him back to where he or she stood a few seconds earlier. At least: that is the intention. In reality, things very often go wrong. Proof of this are the many ‘fail videos’ on TikTok. Quite a few young people testify in videos on TikTok that they broke an arm, wrist or hand during the challenge.
In Belgium, a 12-year-old boy fell on his head during this challenge at school and was taken to hospital seriously injured. ‘The other youngsters did not catch him,’ said the school's headmaster in a comment to Het Nieuwsblad.
