German police investigate ‘deportation tickets’

German police are launching an investigation into the ‘deportation tickets’ distributed by a local branch of the far-right AfD in Karlsruhe.

The local branch distributed a flyer that resembled a plane ticket for illegal immigrants in 30,000 addresses in Karlsruhe. The ticket targeted refugees whose asylum applications had been refused and also immigrants from countries where it has since become safe.

The far-right party of list leader Alice Weidel advocates ‘remigration’, a forced return of immigrants and in some cases even their descendants. Police are now investigating whether the flyer does not incite hatred.

In the elections in Germany on 24 February the AfD could become Germany's second largest party, according to polls.
