Slovak Prime Minister threatens Ukraine with retaliatory measures
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has stepped up the pressure on the European Commission to find an alternative solution to the interruption of Russian gas supplies to Europe via Ukraine.
Robert Fico is continuing to threaten Kiev, and is considering retaliatory measures such as cutting electricity supplies and aid to Ukrainians living in Slovakia.
He spoke at a press conference after meeting EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen to discuss the situation after Russian gas company Gazprom halted natural gas deliveries via Ukraine on January 1, when its five-year transit agreements expired.
