Trump's plan to stop the war in Ukraine: What if it holds up?
To put an end to the war, the Republican has a precise plan: Imagine a demilitarized zone on the front line, at the current demarcation between Ukraine and Russia.
Τhe scenario in question would freeze the front lines. Donald Trump is also proposing that this zone be fortified by the Europeans.
While Moscow currently controls 20% of Ukraine, this freeze would de facto lead to the loss of occupied territories, where exodus is complicated and populations are hostile to the Russian regime, reports France info. Another impact: the loss of certain fertile agricultural lands and access to the Sea of Azov, as well as reduced access to the Black Sea.
The project pleases neither Kiev nor Moscow. “Putin doesn't fully own the four territories he has annexed,” explains Lukas Aubin, a doctor of geopolitics and Russia specialist. The peace agreement therefore doesn't appear to be enforceable.
This week, attacks have intensified on both sides, with no one prepared to bend the knee in the middle of negotiations.
