Tibet ravaged by powerful earthquake that killed at least 120 people
At least 120 people have lost their lives in Tibet after a powerful earthquake struck the region on Tuesday morning, with tremors also felt in Nepal and Bhutan.
The 7.1-magnitude quake hit at 9:05 a.m. local time, followed by several aftershocks in the hours that followed.
Numerous villages were destroyed by the tremors, and at least 3,600 homes were devastated, according to China Central Television.
Residents of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, reported feeling powerful tremors during the earthquake.
"It was very strong. People came running out of their houses. You could see the wires from poles shaken loose," said Bishal Nath Upreti from the Nepal Centre for Disaster Management, a non-government organization based in Kathmandu.
