New Orleans attack: One of the victims linked to British royal family
On January 1, 2025, an Islamist car-ramming attack in New Orleans (United States) left 14 dead, including a 31-year-old British man.
Edward Pettifer was the stepson of the former governess of Princes William and Harry. Tiggy Legge-Bourke, also known as Alexandra Pettifer, married Edward's father, Charles Pettifer, in the late 1990s.
According to the British agency PA, King Charles III is "deeply saddened" by the death of Edward Pettifer. He has contacted the victim's family to offer his condolences.
For their part, William and Kate say they are "shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Ed Pettifer". "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Pettifer family and all the innocent people who have been tragically affected by this horrific attack," the Crown Prince said on social media.
