UK braces for cold snap this weekend

The UK is bracing for an icy cold snap as experts warn that the conditions could pose a real risk to life.

According to the Met Office, snow could blanket several regions, particularly in the west and north of Scotland, as well as parts of northwest England and Northern Ireland.

Temperatures are expected to plummet to as low as -8°C, with meteorologists cautioning that such extreme cold could be especially hazardous for the elderly. The mercury is likely to stay below freezing throughout the weekend.

A yellow weather warning is in place from midday Saturday to Monday morning, covering most of England except the southwest, much of Wales, and parts of southern Scotland.
