Woman complains of itchy eyes...doctors remove 60 live worms
A woman from China began to feel a strong itch in her eyes. As she scratched it, a live worm fell out.
This was a horrifying sight for the Chinese woman, who in a panic immediately headed to the ER. For the doctors in charge, the discovery was astonishing: no fewer than 60 live worms located between her eyelids and eyeballs had to be removed.
According to specialists, the woman had contracted a species of roundworm, Filarioidea. These parasites can be transmitted by infected cats or dogs. After coming into contact with these animals, the woman caught larvae in her hands before touching her eyes.
These are infections that are normally more common in Africa than in China, reports The Sun.
